Some Prefer Blood

Posted in Post-Production on July 23, 2009 by ingrid jungermann

And Some Prefer Cake. And some prefer blood and cake, which is where we would file “Love Sucks” if ever we needed to file it somewhere in a drawer full of blood and/or cake. At this point, I don’t even know what I’m talking about but I know it’s just gross.

All cake aside, our picture about an undead couple screened in Italy on July 22nd during the 3rd Annual Some Prefer Cake Summer Film Festival in Bologna. The festival is dedicated to lesbian-themed short films. We got a nice request from Luki Massa, the art director of Fuoricampo, a lesbian organization, so we shipped off the DVD and hoped the audience got a kick out of it.

“Love Sucks” Celebrates 10 Festivals

Cineslam in Vermont screened our vampire story on June 27th in Session 3. The best part is that it was shown in a barn on the Tree Frog Farm in Guilford, VT. I really wish we could have been there because it seemed like a blast complete with filmmaker forums, a pride dance and a barbeque.

Margaret and Jane Will Always Have Paris

And now “Love Sucks” heads to France! Secretly (although obviously not that secretly) I have a dream to be a successful filmmaker in France. After all, they have the best films there. Although a lot of Europe seems to be ahead of the game when it comes to indie film.

Our film will be showing at Cineffable Paris International Lesbian and Feminist Film Festival and we’re especially honored to be screened here not just for the location and the films, but for the theme, art exhibitions and performances. Here’s a little more about the festival:

The Paris Feminist and Lesbian Film Festival, Quand les lesbiennes se font du cinéma, started in 1989.

The desire to organise a festival grew out of discontent and frustration with the Women’s Film Festival at Créteil: despite the fact that THE lesbian film always won the People’s Choice Award (prix du public) at Créteil, hardly any space was given to lesbian films and lesbian festival goers.

Over the years, Quand les lesbiennes se font du cinéma has grown in size and reputation. It has moved from venue to venue to accommodate the ever increasing interest and demands of the lesbian public. A public that has grown from a few hundred in the beginning, to 2000 in the year 2000.

Thanks to Oksana Milmeyster and the staff for giving us the opportunity!

We will be posting screening information as we receive it.

Next stop for “Love Sucks?” Hartford, CT, for the Out Film CT Gay & Lesbian Film Festival! Looks like we’re screening there on May 24. More details to come, so check out Festivals & Screenings soon for the specifics.

For the record (because there is one), our film also screened at two other locations in Australia: The Bendigo Queer Film Festival in Victoria and the Tropical Alternative Film Festival.

Ingrid’s going to be in North Carolina for the summer but word on the street is Sara miiiiiight just take a road trip to Hartford for the Connecticut premiere. Could be a rumor, though. You know celebrity gossip – never know what to believe.

In other news, we got screener requests from the MIX Milano Lesbian & Gay Film Festival (Italy), the OutView Film Festival (Athens, Greece) and the Q! Film Festival (Indonesia), so we’ll be sending DVDs out as fast as our little walking dead legs will carry us.

“Love Sucks” Australian Premiere Details

Posted in Post-Production with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 2, 2009 by ingrid jungermann

News is in. Looks like we’re screening on March 21 & 28 at ACMI Cinemas in Melbourne. We’re part of the Femme Fatalities session which looks right up our alley. If you decide to peruse the site, definitely check out the trailer for “In Twilight’s Shadow.” We wish we could be there to share in the fun and compare vampire notes. Good luck to MQFF!

For full details of the screening, go to Festivals & Screenings.

In other news Down Under, our film will be showing Tropic Alernative Film Festival in Cairnes, Australia. We’ll post more information as we receive it. Sort of boggles my mind that our little film has played in four festivals in three countries!

Big Surge

We got a few more requests for screeners, among them being from the Big Sur International Short Film Screening Series in California. Looks like a cool festival so we’re hoping they see something in “Love Sucks” that they like. Also shipped out DVDs to Out Connecticut, Philadelphia QFest and MichFest Film Festival. Not sure where the programmers got our info but we’re thankful they got it somewhere! We’ll keep you posted.

For the Love of Australia

We’re shipping off our digibeta to the Melbourne Queer Film Festival in a couple of weeks (they pay for shipping, which is really nice) and we wanted to share how great they’ve been already. Festival Director Lisa Daniel told us in an email:

“I curate a tour of the MQFF highlights to queer film starved folk in other parts of Australia, and I’d love to be able to send LOVE SUCKS to a couple of locations in rural Victoria and Far North Queensland for a screening. Dates are throughout April and start of May (approx 5 screenings altogether).”

So, we get to travel around Australia without really traveling around Australia. Thanks to MQFF and Lisa.

Hello, faithful “Love Sucks” followers!

Shipped off several DVDs yesterday to gay and lesbian film festivals in Tel Aviv (Israel), Toronto, Torino (Italy) and Oslo (Norway). Our most recent screener request was from the Miami and Fort Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Film Festivals (which would be very special to me because I was born and raised in Florida), so we applied via withoutabox and will ship that off shortly.

I also sent off my play, “The Art of Leaving,” to New Georges Theatre in New York and to a friend in Wilmington, NC, to see if I can generate any interest in producing a theater production. I’m going to plug myself again for news like this assuming people are as interested in me as I am. And believeyoume, I am interested in me (just ask my friends): www.ingridjungermann.wordpress.com.

“Love Sucks” to Screen in Australia

mqff

Great news just in. Our film was chosen to screen at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival in Australia in March of 2009. The staff at MQFF is going to fly us out there, put us up and give us free drinks for days. That’s a lie. That’s not happening. But we are extremely excited that our film will be shown in the largest film festival in Australia! Thanks to the programmers there for given us the opportunity. We will post specific screening information once we get an update.
